Governance basics for organisations and associations

Organisations working with donors, partners and public authorities are regularly asked to demonstrate that they are properly constituted and properly run. Sound governance records make that straightforward.

At a minimum, an organisation should be able to produce its constitutive documents, evidence of registration, a current list of officers or board members, minutes of governing-body decisions and its internal policies on finance, procurement and staff conduct.

Reviewing these records periodically — rather than when a donor or authority asks — reduces disruption and makes compliance obligations easier to meet.
